A Thanksgiving Service for Irene Wardle, who died on 8th May, commemorating her long life of faithful Christian service took place at Lymm Baptist Church on Friday 20th May. Irene worked alongside Ralph Chambers for many years. Initially with the Lord's Day Observance Society where together in the 1950's and early 60's they conducted "Sunshine Corner" children's meetings in Manchester & Liverpool parks; "Young Life Guard" rallies across the north west; an annual beach mission in Ramsey, Isle of Man. Together they founded the Children's Christian Christian Crusade in 1964 conducting over 600 children's missions in churches from Plymouth to Peterhead, Liverpool to Louth. The Port Erin beach mission in the Isle of Man, annual tent crusade in Alexandra Park, Moss Side; the "Glory Hole" coffee bar and "No 1 Mobile Gospel Disco" outreaches to teenagers in the 60's & 70's were events they shared together over a 30 year period. Irene will be remembered best for her incredible gift of storytelling and her ability to hold large audiences of children spellbound. Although she never married she'll have lots of 'spiritual children' in heaven!
