Associate Minister or Head of Community Engagement needed – with a vision for reaching unchurched families The Church. We are Lymm Baptist Church in Cheshire. We have 200 adults and children attending on a Sunday morning and a membership of around 120, made up of people from a wide variety of Christian backgrounds. Lymm Baptist Church is led by a team of elders and deacons and our pastor/teacher Chris Newton, supported by wider congregational ministry teams. We have a large children’s and youth work (Urban Saints group) and run several initiatives throughout the year such as a Holiday club, youth events, and special events at Christmas and Easter. The Location. Lymm is set in a rural location between the cities of Manchester and Liverpool, close to Warrington. Church members live both in Lymm itself and also in nearby villages and residential suburbs of Warrington and Manchester. Lymm has a population of around 11,000, but has retained a strong village identity and sense of community. The Vision. Our vision is to reach out and become more relevant to unchurched members of our village and surrounding area. We already run a mums & toddlers group, lunch club, children’s club and art club, which attract in many from outside the church. We have in the past run Alpha, post-Alpha and marriage courses, and are now considering if we should extend this to run courses on other issues which would be relevant to people’s daily lives. We wish to build up our links with the other churches in Lymm with whom we are working on Hope08 projects, and are now considering a café-style church initiative. The Role. We are looking for a person to strengthen our existing initiatives of outreach into the community, and to develop new ideas. The successful candidate will have a gift for communicating the good news and teaching of Jesus. He/she will be involved in our Sunday services and church life, and will have a role in engaging creatively with families and individuals inside and outside the church. He/she will have a passion for working with small groups, to encourage and expand their role within the church. He/she will need to be prepared to work within a shared leadership team, and will wish to make prayer central in all they do as they engage with us in trying to discern God's leading for the way forward. The Person. This post might be appropriate for a Bible college or University graduate. Alternatively, it might suit an individual from a different background who wishes to join a team ministry to help engage with the local community, with a particular emphasis on family work and/or reaching the unchurched. Or, it might suit an established pastor or minister with a gift for reaching unchurched communities who wishes to develop that calling as an Associate Minister within our team. Salary range - £15,000 to £26,000 depending on previous experience. Adjustments can be made in the light of preferred accommodation arrangements. For an application form, please contact the Church Office on 01925-752805 or email: admin@lymmbaptistchurch.com Closing date for applications is Saturday 28th February 2009. |
