Please come and join us at our Harvest service on Sunday 10th October at 10.30am

This year we will be having a multi-faceted focus for our harvest celebration. The BMS World Mission appeal for 2004  features its support for the development work being carried out in Afghanistan. It is entitled " Beyond the Veil". Click here for more details.

Veils have a way of obscuring our vision and when we look at different situations, we almost always do it through some sort of veil. It could be the veil of history, or of ignorance, or of publicity, or of the media.

BMS World Mission wants to encourage us to look beyond these popular perceptions to see a different reality in Afghanistan, a country whose history is littered with conflict and strife.

The work which BMS supports brings dignity and hope for the future for its war-weary people, especially its children.

We shall be linking this theme to a further look at the church in Kathmandu which the Fosters attended and which has a significant ministry to street kids, bringing dignity and hope to them also.

We are offering a number of suggestions this year for practical ways in which we can demonstrate our thanks to God for his ongoing provision.

  • financial gift will go towards the BMS Appeal
  • gifts of non-perishable food will once again be given to Bobby McAree for distribution on the Wythenshawe estate in Manchester
  • we shall at some stage be suggesting specific ways in which we can maintain an ongoing support for the children's ministry  Kathmandu
  • as an addition we are offering an interesting way of contributing to overseas aid, in that we are introducing the church for the first time to the work of Smile International, an organisation founded and run by the Rev Clive Doubleday, a Baptist minister in Kent.

Smile International promotes the Gospel through practical support for poor and needy people around the world, affected by war, poverty or illness.

The main focus of their work is currently in the Balkans and increasingly in Africa.

They have recently built a centre in Kosovo which incorporates a medical clinic and there is need for general medical items to stock up the clinic.

Thank you for your support for this year's Harvest Appeal.
