In May 2005, Danny Newton & Phil Savage from Lymm Baptist Church, spent 2 weeks in Romania with Christian Community Ministries (CCM) helping to build a new building at the Emanuel Children's Home in Cluj-Napoca, Romania. Below is their account on their trip, the work of CCM with orphans in Romania. Click here for details of planned fund raising activities in Lymm. These children are in a 'Centre for Minors' in Romania. This Centre is known to us and the children as the "Children's Prison.” Some are in the centre because they may have done some minor infringement of the law, but most are there simply because there is nowhere else for them to go, they are known as street children. Sometimes the Police find them on the streets, pick them up and drop them off at the Centre. After 30 days or so they are then released back on to the streets. These are the type of children CCM are trying to help. Christian Community Ministries (CCM) is a registered charity, which looks to serve the needy in a practical caring way. At the same time we try to show the Love of Jesus Christ and to share His gospel of Repentance, Forgiveness and Reconciliation to God the Father. The Emanuel Children's Home project began way back in 1994 when CCM felt God's leading to buy a house for renovation. This would enable them to give street children like those above, a loving home, education and to teach them about Jesus.
Existing Emanuel home It was not until September 1998 that Emanuel was open. Now with twelve children (full capacity) the Home is working well and the children have settled into life's 'normal' routine. The children go to school and are all doing well. The Emanuel is staffed by qualified Romanians who are totally dedicated to the children. The present Home needs £28,000 each year just to maintain its running costs. The best way to help street children is to get them off the streets and into a loving home. CCM started a new project back in April 2004, to build a larger home in the same grounds as the existing Emanuel home. The new building will be able to accommodate up to 40 children. Currently the shell has been built, the roof is on and the windows installed to make the building weatherproof and in May 2005, central heating pipes were fitted. The new building Inside the new building The total cost to complete the new home is estimated at £150,000 and there is still £100,000 still to be raised. As you can see from the photos above there is still much to work to be done. CCM together with Lymm Baptist Church and other churches in Lymm and surrounding areas would love to finish the home faster than the estimated 2.5 years, so street children can be moved in quicker. With practical support and prayer support we know this is possible. It says in Colossians Ch.3 v.17, "Whatever you do, whether is word or deed do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to the Father through him." There are lots of fun activities that you can get involved in to help raise the money that is so desperately needed:
For more details on any of these activities please contact either:
All proceeds from each activity will go to help build the new Children's Home. We would love to see you at the above events, It would be a great idea for other churches to get involved and run their own events too. We have lots more information regarding the children, the workers, Cluj-Napoca, church life, CCM, the food and life in Romania. If you would like us to visit your church to talk with you or your congregation then please contact us through Lymm Baptist Church. We visited the home May 2005, to help install the first fix plumbing, later this year the first fix electric's will be implemented. In addition to other general building work, next year second phase plumbing and electric's are planned. The trip was very tiring as neither of us are builders, it very very emotional, extremely spiritually uplifting to see what God is doing there and for each of us the most rewarding thing we have done. We would really encourage you to pray about and to talk to CMM about a similar mission of your own to Romania. In monetary terms in the UK, so little can make a massive difference in Romania. £10 buys a homeless father's cancer drugs and treatment for a whole month, he receives a total of 9p a month to live on! More information about CCM can be found here including how to make donations. Thank you for reading. Danny Newton & Phil Savage on behalf of CCM.
